House prices have significantly outpaced wages for decades and higher mortgage costs have reduced affordability. We believe Stamp Duty places an unfair financial burden on home buyers and increases the cost of buying a home, so it should be abolished.

Stamp Duty can add thousands of pounds to the cost of buying a home, making it more difficult for first-time buyers and existing homeowners to move. It can discourage people from relocating to meet their changing needs, for example families needing to upsize their homes or older people wishing to downsize. Abolishing this additional fee would encourage greater movement within the housing market and reduce barriers to home ownership.
