Rejected petition: Review the School Holiday Calendar and Consider More Evenly Distributed Holidays

Rejected on

Launch a national review of school holidays and consider replacing part of the six-week summer break with longer holidays throughout the year. Keep 190 school days while better supporting children's wellbeing, family life, childcare needs, and modern working patterns.

A more balanced school calendar could support children's wellbeing, help working families manage childcare, reduce term-time absences, and provide greater flexibility for families with relatives overseas. As schools, local authorities, academy trusts, and childcare providers rely on aligned term dates, meaningful reform requires national coordination. We ask the Government to consult on whether the current holiday structure remains the best fit for modern family life.
