We call on the Government to amend the law so that if a sitting Prime Minister is forced to resign or steps down mid-term, a General Election must be automatically triggered within 60 days
When a Prime Minister resigns, the governing party replaces them without a public vote.
This is undemocratic.
New leaders often introduce major policy shifts the public never agreed to. Furthermore, if a PM fails and is forced out, it reflects a wider failure of the governing party’s leadership and the party as a whole. The public elects a government based on its leader and manifesto. If that leader leaves, the British public must have the right to decide who leads the country.
Why was this petition rejected?
