Rejected petition: Introduce a maximum legal working temperature in UK workplaces.

Rejected on

We want the Government to introduce a legally enforceable max. workplace temperature. Current UK law sets minimum workplace temperatures but no maximum. During periods of extreme heat, workers can be required to continue working in conditions that may affect their health, safety, and productivity.

We believe employers should be legally required to take action when workplace temperatures exceed safe limits, including improving ventilation, providing additional breaks, supplying drinking water, allowing flexible working arrangements, or temporarily suspending non-essential work. We ask the Government to establish a maximum workplace temperature of 30°C, with lower limits for physically demanding work.
