Rejected petition: Close Schools or Use Remote Learning in Extreme Heat (30°C+ or Warnings)
Rejected on
The UK government should require schools to close or switch to remote learning during extreme heat events where Met Office amber or red heat-health alerts are issued, and/or when temperatures exceed 30°C where conditions are assessed as unsafe for students and staff.
UK schools are increasingly affected by extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 30°C+ and heat-health warnings becoming more common. Many school buildings overheat, and students are expected to attend full days in unsafe conditions, including outdoor activities. This petition calls for clear government guidance requiring schools to close or switch to remote learning during extreme heat events, and/or when temperatures exceed 30°C where conditions are unsafe.
