Open petition: Regulate the sale of hidden cameras disguised as everyday objects
Created by lujayn Aljumailey
Closes on
Require licensing, registration or stricter controls on the sale of hidden cameras disguised as everyday objects, such as chargers, smoke alarms, plug sockets, clocks and other household items, to help protect children and vulnerable people from exploitation and abuse.
A parent can check a room for cameras and still miss a device hidden inside a charger, smoke alarm or plug socket. A victim of domestic abuse may never know they are being watched. A child may be recorded in a place where they should be safest. These devices are intentionally designed to avoid detection and have been used in criminal offences across the UK. Greater safeguards are needed to prevent harm before it occurs.
