Rejected petition: We need a general election for the electorate to decide who will be our PM
Rejected on
Hold a General Election if a new Prime Minister takes office before the next scheduled election. A change in national leadership should be decided by the public through a fresh democratic mandate, allowing voters to choose who governs the UK.
Under the UK's parliamentary system, a Prime Minister can be replaced without a General Election. We believe that when national leadership changes, the public should have the opportunity to vote for a Government under its new leader. Holding a General Election would give the new Prime Minister a fresh democratic mandate and allow voters to decide who should govern the UK.
