Rejected petition: Call an immediate General Election following the Prime Minister’s resignation

Rejected on

We believe that when a Prime Minister resigns, the British public should have the opportunity to elect a Government with a fresh democratic mandate. We therefore call on the Government to dissolve Parliament and hold a General Election as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister is the head of the UK Government and plays a central role in setting national policy. Following the resignation of the Prime Minister, we believe the country should not simply be led by a replacement chosen internally by a political party. The public should be given the opportunity to elect a Government with a fresh democratic mandate through an immediate General Election.
