When a Prime Minister resigns, the people of the United Kingdom are often left with a successor whom they had no direct say in selecting. This ongoing cycle undermines the democratic principles that our country holds dear, as it leaves the electorate without a voice during pivotal changes in Leaders
For many, this lack of public input into who leads our nation is frustrating and disempowering. The significance of this issue hit close to home when I realized that changes in leadership have profoundly affected my day-to-day life and the future of our nation.
According to a survey by the Electoral Reform Society, 72% of voters believe that a general election should automatically follow the resignation of a Prime Minister.
