Rejected petition: Make Air Conditioning mandatory in nurseries and Early Years settings.
Rejected on
I am asking the Government to consider making air conditioning a mandatory requirement in UK nurseries, and Early Years settings. Children can be at risk from hot weather because of their physiology, behaviours and activity levels and are potentially at greater risk when aged under 4 years.
Extreme heat is becoming more prevalent in the UK with another record high being set today (23/06/26). Children under 4 are considered one of the most vulnerable groups in society, and are still developing the ability to regulate their body temperature. The lack of air conditioning or effective cooling devices in consistently hot weather means that they are becoming increasingly at risk of ill and adverse effects from heat stress, heat exhaustion and/or heatstroke.
