Rejected petition: Get rid of the 2 pet only rule per apartment and allow as many pets as you want

Rejected on

Most private renting only allows 2 lets per apartment and I think that is absolutely horrible! Pets deserve to be loved and cared for. They are innocent animals and they shouldn’t be discriminated against especially when there’s 1000’s and more of homeless animals out there! New rule to unlimited!

The 2 pet rule per apartment is absolutely disgusting! These pets do not deserve to be thrown into the streets just because of the tenancy policy! We need to fight against pets going homeless and changing the rules to unlimited pets per apartment on the condition that we look after them and the place is tidy! I have loved my pets my entire life and I will fight until this rule gets changed because animals are innocent and they deserve to be loved and cared for in a forever loving home!

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

Since 1 May 2026, under the Renters' Rights Act 2025 a private tenant has the right to ask for permission to keep a pet and their landlord cannot unreasonably refuse. You can find out more about the law and how it works in practice here: https://england.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/housing_options/private_renting/pets_in_private_rented_accommodation

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, such as how you would like the Renters' Rights Act to change.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
