Rejected petition: Provide Air Conditioning in all UK School Classrooms

Rejected on

Introduce a national programme to equip all state-funded school classrooms with air conditioning or equivalent cooling systems, ensuring schools can remain safe and operational during increasingly frequent extreme heat events caused by climate change.

Heatwaves in the UK are becoming more frequent and severe. Many school buildings were not designed for extreme temperatures, leaving classrooms too hot for learning and potentially affecting the health of pupils and staff.

The Government should fund a national programme to install air conditioning or effective cooling systems in state-funded schools. This would help keep schools open, protect education, and reduce disruption and childcare pressures on families during extreme heat.
