Rejected petition: Provide capital funding to install air cooling in all UK state schools.
Rejected on
Provide targeted capital funding and update building regulations to mandate the installation of energy-efficient air cooling infrastructure in all UK state-funded schools. The Department for Education must support schools in retrofitting classrooms to protect pupils from rising summer temperatures.
Extreme heat is our new normal. The Climate Change Committee warns UK infrastructure is built for a climate that no longer exists, leaving classrooms dangerously overheated. Children suffer severe health risks; Gov.uk guidance states standard fans can worsen dehydration above 35°C. Stifling heat destroys productivity and exam performance. Cash-strapped schools lack capital budgets to retrofit. Government must fund energy-efficient air cooling to keep pupils safe and learning.
