Rejected petition: Legislate Maximum Heat Limits to Ensure Safe Learning Environments
Rejected on
This petition urges the UK Government and the Department for Education to legislate a mandatory maximum heat limit for schools, requiring them to send students home during extreme heatwaves as while the UK enforces a minimum classroom temperature, there is no legal maximum limit
While the UK enforces a minimum classroom temperature, there is no legal maximum limit, which leaves children vulnerable to heat exhaustion while coming, leaving and while in school as many schools have no A/C. Excessive heat makes concentration impossible and poses severe health risks, including fainting and heatstroke. Even though schools have the option to shut, this is not enough as many schools are more concerned about attendance than wellbeing.
