Rejected petition: Deliver childcare reforms for large families as promised

Rejected on

Ensure urgent implementation of Universal Credit childcare reforms so families with more than two children receive the increased support as promised, and clarify how transitional protection interacts with the new child element.

The government announced it would remove the two-child limit for Universal Credit child elements and increase childcare support for larger families. Many now receive the new child element but lost transitional protection, so see no real gain. The increased childcare support for extra children is also delayed, with no timeline. We urge urgent delivery and full support as promised.

Why was this petition rejected?

We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.

We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.

The two-child limit for Universal Credit officially ended on April 6, 2026.

Some families may not receive an uplift in their Universal Credit payments if they are already subject to the benefit cap or if they were in receipt of transitional payments.
