Rejected petition: Install Air Conditioning in Schools to Prevent Closures During Extreme Heat
Rejected on
We call on the Government to fund and implement the installation of air conditioning and other effective cooling systems in schools across the country to ensure that schools can remain open and safe during periods of extreme heat.
Every child has the right to a safe learning environment. As climate change increases the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, school buildings must be adapted to cope with higher temperatures.
1. Provide dedicated funding for air conditioning and modern cooling systems in schools.
2. Establish maximum safe classroom temperature guidelines.
3. Ensure schools can remain open and operational during heatwaves whenever it is safe to do so.
