Reform the e-petitions system. Lower the 10,000 and 100,000 thresholds. Ban arbitrary closures unless three independent experts certify a petition is physically impossible or outside UK jurisdiction. Make petitions hitting the top threshold become binding Public Bills for a mandatory Commons vote.
The e-petitions system is a dead-end. 10,000 signatures gets a copy-paste reply; 100,000 gets a non-binding debate the Government can ignore. High thresholds suppress citizen legislation. The Committee can reject petitions unchecked. We propose: no closure unless three independent experts unanimously certify it is physically impossible or outside UK powers. Lower thresholds and make top petitions become binding Public Bills for a mandatory Commons vote.
