Rejected petition: Set legal max temperatures and fund UK air con to stop heatwave deaths.
Rejected on
We want the government to enforce statutory maximum temperatures for work/school. Support UK HVAC manufacturing, expand 0% VAT to cooling systems, train electricians, and offer cooling grants to mitigate heatwave mortality in unsuitable homes for the UK population.
Met Office warns extreme heat is the new normal, causing high mortality for UK citizens, especially disabled, elderly, and vulnerable people. Our housing stock is unsuitable, trapping heat with no legal max temperatures to protect us.
Cooling is a necessity, but high import costs and an electrician shortage make it unaffordable.
The government must:
1. Enforce max temperatures for work/school.
2. Fund UK manufacturing.
3. Train electricians.
4. Set 0% VAT on cooling.
5. Provide grants.
