We ask the Government to introduce a policy allowing schools to start the summer holidays early when the UK Health Security Agency issues heat alerts or when temperatures exceed a specified threshold.
Many school buildings in England are not designed for prolonged periods of extreme heat and do not have air conditioning. High classroom temperatures can make it difficult for pupils to concentrate and may increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses. We believe learning is less effective in these conditions and that the health and wellbeing of pupils and staff should come first.
Why was this petition rejected?
