We want the Government to introduce a legally recognised maximum safe classroom temperature for schools in England and publish national guidance requiring schools to take appropriate action when classrooms exceed that temperature.
Heatwaves are becoming more frequent, but there is no legal maximum classroom temperature in schools. Excessive heat can affect learning, concentration and health, leaving schools without clear national standards. We believe the Government should introduce a maximum safe classroom temperature to protect pupils and staff and ensure schools have clear, evidence-based guidance during periods of extreme heat, reducing inconsistent decisions across schools and ensuring equal protection for all pupils
