Open petition: Introduce fatality prevention strategy for rail networks

Created by Amina (Tara) Ahmed
Closes on

Government to introduce a fatality prevention strategy specific to rail networks, delivered alongside train operators to improve safety measures at high-risk railway locations to help prevent fatalities. I witnessed the death of a young person and believe more could be done to save lives.

I witnessed the tragic death of a young person on the railway. No family should have to lose a loved one in this way, and no member of the public, train staff or emergency services should have to experience preventable tragedies if more can be done. I recognise that not every incident can be prevented, but I believe the Government should do more to reduce the number of deaths and serious incidents on the railway. This should include working with train operating companies, mental health services and safety experts to identify high-risk locations and implement effective preventative measures.
