Rejected petition: Exclude sexual offenders from automatic early release schemes
Rejected on
We call on the UK Government to change the law so people convicted of sexual offences are excluded from automatic early release. Release should only follow a thorough risk assessment showing they no longer pose a significant risk.
Sexual offenders should not be released automatically before completing their full sentence. As a victim of sexual abuse, I know the lasting harm these crimes cause, and it is deeply distressing when offenders are released early, especially when survivors are left to live with the consequences. If prison space is an issue, offenders with only 1 or 2 years left to serve should be held in unused facilities such as RAF Scampton rather than being released early.
