Rejected petition: Protect Consumer Choice: Keep Disc Format Support in Future Consoles

Rejected on

We call on the UK Government to protect consumer choice by introducing legislation that supports the continued availability of physical video game media and disc-compatible consoles. We believe physical media is important for ownership, accessibility and game preservation.

Physical video game media should remain available as a consumer choice. Disc-based gaming promotes competition, often allowing players to buy games at lower prices from various retailers rather than a single digital storefront. Physical media also plays an important role in game preservation, helping ensure games remain accessible for future generations. Removing disc formats would reduce consumer freedom, increase reliance on digital distribution and limit long-term access to purchased games.
