Rejected petition: Legalise the possession of non-lethal self defence items for women.

Rejected on

Current UK law strictly prohibits the carrying of any item for the purpose of self-defence, leaving women with zero legal means to deter or defend against physical and sexual violence.

Violence against women is rising and declared a national emergency by police chiefs. The government needs to legalise an implement for women to carry to deter sexual attacks. This must be designed for use at a distance because of biological strength differences; once men get close, they can overpower women. Women in the USA can legally carry items like pepper spray while we are left defenceless. It is time we had access to an effective, non-lethal means of defence.
