Rejected petition: Make Criminal Background Checks Mandatory for All UK Dating Apps
Rejected on
Introduce legislation requiring all UK dating apps to carry out mandatory identity verification and criminal background checks before users can create or keep a dating profile, preventing those convicted of specified serious violent, domestic abuse and sexual offences from using these platforms.
Every year, people unknowingly begin relationships with individuals convicted of serious domestic abuse, sexual or violent offences. I believe dating apps should be legally required to verify users' identities and carry out criminal background checks under a Government-approved legal framework. This would help prevent those convicted of specified serious offences from using dating apps and improve public safety through stronger safeguards.
