We are facing the third UK heatwave. Directly caused by mining and burning of fossil fuels (per University of Reading). Companies driving this should be held to account, further fossil fuel expansion stopped and a commitment to renewable energy made to safeguard the future of our planet.
We are facing a third heatwave in the UK in three months.
Heatwaves cause risks to health, agriculture and life in the UK, along with significant increased pressure on an overstretched NHS.
Leading climate scientists at the University of Reading have concluded that the temperatures seen in the UK in the last 5 years (including the 40 degrees reached in July 2022) would not have been possible without the burning of fossil fuels, and that climate change can be slowed by committing to net zero
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We are not clear what you mean when you say to hold those companies "accountable".
