Rejected petition: Require Physical Media Options for All Commercial Media Releases
Rejected on
Recent announcements, including Sony’s move away from physical media, risk accelerating digital-only releases. We want the UK Government to require commercial media publishers to offer a physical edition alongside any digital release to protect consumer choice and ownership.
Many digital games, films, music and software are sold at prices comparable to physical copies, yet consumers often receive only a licence to access the content rather than permanent ownership. Access can be lost if licences are revoked, accounts are suspended or online services close. We believe consumers should have the option to purchase a physical copy that provides lasting ownership, preservation and freedom from reliance on digital platforms.
