By the end of the school year, many pupils are physically and mentally tired after months of learning. An earlier summer break would give children more time to rest, play, and recharge before starting a new academic year. Rest is an important part of a child’s wellbeing and development.
An earlier holiday could also reduce the disruption caused by extreme summer temperatures. In recent years, schools have faced increasing heatwaves, making classrooms uncomfortable and affecting pupils’ ability to learn. A review of the school calendar could help ensure that education and children’s wellbeing are better balanced.
