Rejected petition: Stop ageism in the recruitment process

Rejected on

We are calling on the government to tighten regulations in the HR industry to stop the unregulated use of AI tools that unfairly discriminate against middle-aged and older workers.

In a zero-barrier-to-entry industry, recruitment companies no longer respond to job applicants, and ghosting mid-life applicants is having devastating unintended effects. Only 10% of recruitment companies are members of the REC regulatory board, yet thousands operate in the UK today. Not legally required to track age-related data, currently, recruitment companies cannot be held legally accountable for age-related hiring bias.
