We call on the Government to immediately amend the Sentencing Act 2026 to ensure that individuals convicted of serious sexual offences serve their full custodial sentences as originally determined by the courts, with no reduction to a 50% release mark.
Victims of serious sexual crimes undergo immense trauma to secure justice through the Crown Prosecution Service & thecourt system.Reducing custodial terms to resolve prison overcrowding undermines judicial sentencing,shatters victims' peace of mind,places a severe emotional burden on survivors who must renavigate their safety timelines.The safety and psychological well-being of victims must be prioritised over administrative convenience.Sexual offences should be completely excluded from early release expansions.
