Define "significant NHS experience" as two years’ of NHS service for entry to core speciality training and three years’ NHS service for entry to higher speciality training, and use this when prioritising applicants for speciality training.
The contribution of NHS doctors should be central when defining “significant NHS experience” for speciality training. In line with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges’ recommendation, this should be set as no less than two years and no more than three years of NHS service. Accordingly, we recommend this to be two years for core training and three years for higher speciality training.
