Rejected petition: Introduce cigarette style warnings for Student Loans

Rejected on

Student loans should come with black and white warnings similar to cigarette style packaging - “this product may seriously harm your future financial health”.

Rationale - student loan terms are extremely onerous with successive governments willing to retroactively change terms for graduates.

This petition is to try to ensure young people are aware about the risks to their future financial health if they take out a student loan. As well as awful terms it’s import that those considering university are aware that successive governments are more than happy to screw over those with student loans using practices which would be illegal for any high street lender (I.e changing terms after agreements were made)

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

unclear what exactly you are asking for - the material shown to people considering taking out a student loan already comes with advice as to the implications of the loan for post-university life, and the effect of carrying such a loan around after university is anyway common knowledge

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
