We call on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to urgently review and reform the Universal Credit monthly assessment process regarding the "double paycheck" anomaly.
The Impact on Claimants
Zero awards cause immense financial hardship. Misaligned employer pay dates create artificial income spikes, leaving vulnerable families without support for rent or food, forcing them into debt and food bank reliance.
Our Proposed Solution
The DWP must use HMRC’s Year-to-Date (YTD) figures when two payrolls fall in one assessment period. Averaging YTD income reflects reality, ensures accurate monthly earnings, and prevents unfair zero-payment months.
