Rejected petition: Make June and July the school summer break

Rejected on

We have had three heatwaves in the UK in 2026: May, June and July. Rather than having to cancel school days to the detriment of children (who miss learning) and parents (who miss work or other commitments), adapt our school year so the summer break is when the highest likelihood of heatwaves is.

Of the top 10 hottest days by maximum temperatures recorded in the UK, 8 were in June and July: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_weather_records?wprov=sfla1

This suggests mid-June to late July would be the best time for children to be away from school.
