Open petition: Raise the maximum charge for an MOT to £87.17 for cars & £47.12 for motorcycles

Closes on

The maximum charge for an MOT test has not increased since 2010, despite a rise in business costs. Independent garages can be forced to close due to not earning a living wage. In line with inflation since 2010 the maximum fee for a car MOT should be raised to £87.17, and for a motorcycle to £47.12.

The DVSA charge MOT stations to take tests every year, buy MOT slots, and require them to have certain test equipment. Business rates rise, as well as cost of electricity and telecoms. Independent garages can be forced to close due to not earning a living wage.

In line with inflation the cost of a car MOT should rise to £87.17, and a motorcycle MOT to £47.12. Many garages lose money by continuing to provide this vital service.
