Open petition: Require dogs to undergo mandatory sociability tests & introduce mitigations

We call on the Government to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act and require dogs to undergo mandatory sociability tests in order to test if dogs are likely to attack other dogs or people. Dogs failing the test, should be given compulsory retraining, muzzles, or put down if found a threat to safety.

We believe there are too many unruly and dangerous dogs in public, and we cannot have threatening animals on our streets. My placid little dog has been attacked on four occasions this year, and I have been attacked once. An Alsatian went for my throat. The police were sympathetic, but unable to assist.

If people are aggressive in public, action is taken. However, we allow aggressive dogs to prowl our streets, seemingly with no consequences. Rather than being reactive, we believe we should be pre-emptive, and test dogs for sociability every two years. My dog would pass any test with flying colours.
