There are no statutory laws enforcing how pet cremations are carried out, ashes are tracked, or ensuring a dignified process.
Pet cremation is primarily regulated as a waste disposal & biosecurity issue (Animal By-Products Regulations 2013), meaning individual standards of care are voluntary
Human cremation are governed by statutory framework. One needs to exist for standards of pet cremation.
Including
traceability of ashes & pet.
Rigorous inspections of crematoria standards with reports visible to the public.
Owners to be informed of how pets are stored at vet practice & crematoria, fresh or frozen, bagged or unbagged, how long stored for.
The location of crematorium used.
Transport arrangements for their pet including if transported with other pets, waste & clinical waste.
Why was this petition rejected?
