Rejected petition: Stop deducting carers's allowance from Universal credit awards

We want the Government to change the rules so that carer's allowance is no longer deducted from Universal credit. Unpaid carers should be able to receive both their full Universal credit entitlement and their carer's allowance.
Thousands of unpaid carers provide at least 35 hours of care each week saving the Government billions of pounds every year. However, carer's allowance is currently deducted pound-for-pound from Universal credit, meaning many carers are no better off financially for claiming it. We believe this is unfair and that unpaid carers should be properly recognised and supported for the vital care they provide. Before universal credit, carers allowance could be claimed alongside other benefits.
