Rejected petition: Reject "Watch This Space" proposals to control social media algorithms.
Rejected on
Do not implement the “Watch This Space” Green Paper proposals that force video-sharing and social media platforms to alter their discovery algorithms or mandate the promotion of specific public service broadcasters over independent content.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has published the “Watch This Space” Green Paper, proposing measures requiring platforms such as YouTube and TikTok to alter recommendation algorithms to give prominence to public service broadcasters and selected news sources. These proposals risk undermining user choice, media plurality and independent creators. The Government should not regulate algorithms in a way that influences what lawful content citizens are more likely to see online.
