Open Require manifestos be accessible to those with sensory & intellectual impairment

Around 25% of the UK’s population are reported as disabled and their right to vote is protected by law. However, party manifestos are not routinely available in accessible formats, which can remove their right to make informed political choices and may contravene international human rights laws.

We call on party manifesto documents to be legally required to be made available in braille, BSL, Easy Read, Large Print & Audio versions to ensure equal opportunity for all voters to compare policies.

They should be published on websites compliant with international accessibility guidelines (WCAG2.2AA) to ensure readability & compatibility with screen readers. We believe this would comply with domestic & international human rights legislation (Equality Act 2010 and UNCRPD 2008) which we feel are not currently being met.
