Rejected petition: Make BBC services subscription-only instead of funded by the TV licence
Rejected on
Replace the compulsory TV licence with a voluntary subscription for BBC TV and iPlayer. People who choose to use BBC services should pay for them, while those who do not want to use them should not have to.
We believe people should have the freedom to choose whether to pay for BBC services. Most major TV and streaming providers operate on a voluntary subscription basis, allowing consumers to decide what they pay for. We believe the BBC should adopt the same model, so only those who choose to use BBC TV and iPlayer fund them, while others are free to spend their money on services they value.
We believe this would create a fairer funding model based on consumer choice.
