We call upon the new Prime Minister to adandon plans for local government re-organisation in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. this costly exercise is not needed, will cause huge upheaval and will mean local government will no longer be truly local.
Local Government re-organisation was not in the Government’s manifesto and they have no mandate for it.
They want to create 2 new super councils.
One of the new Councils will see large swathes of the county swallowed up by Leicester City Council.
The other will create a huge council which stretches from Hinckley to Oakham and Melton to Loughborough.
Local Government will no longer be local with decisions being taken miles away from local people and council tax will rise for many people.
Why was this petition rejected?
It requests action at a local level.
