By observing the global impacts of data centres, it is clear that there is a requirement for environmental regulations to be introduced. Data centres are using water-based cooling methods for their processor chips. 80% of this water evaporates and the remaining water cannot be used.
It is imperative that this country prioritises our necessities over luxuries. 84% of proposed data centres in the UK are in water-stressed areas. AI is not a necessity, clean and safe drinking water is a requirement for human life. With climate change impacting our environment, it is important that the UK recognises that data centres, prioritising AI or not, must not impede on our health. We cannot allow for the expansion of data centres without meeting the proper health and safety regulations.
