Rejected petition: Reform higher education to protect PhD candidates from harm

Rejected on

PhD students are being employed at a voluntarily basis and not paid for the work they do. Often overlooked for publications and the credit are allocated to internal university scholars or to people who haven’t work at all.The complaints procedure is not transparent and protects the university

Increase phd salaries to be sufficient to cover living expenses
Protect intellectual property of PhD students
Transparency about complaints procedure in higher education
Annual Review of tenured professors
Robust university complaints procedure to protect the students from harm
Research integrity standards for academics and journals with intellectual property protection
Recognize PhD students who are accelerating research and give incentives to continue whilst protecting them from harm

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This is a matter for Universities and Higher Education Institutions.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
