Open petition: Legalise assisted dying for terminally ill adults

Created by A Zucconi
Closes on

Introduce legislation to legalise assisted dying for mentally competent adults suffering from terminal illnesses or incurable, painful medical conditions. Current UK law denies individuals the right to a peaceful death. We believe citizens deserve dignity to a peaceful & insufferable end of life.

We urge the Government to introduce legislation to legalise assisted dying for mentally competent adults who have a terminal diagnosis or an incurable, irreversible physical condition causing suffering that cannot be relieved. This legislation should include rigorous, multi-layered safeguards.

Under this legislation, eligibility should be verified through independent assessments by medical specialists, a mandatory reflection period, proof of mental capacity and robust protection against external coercion.
