Rejected petition: Full Sentences for Serious Crimes, Not Half Measures

Rejected on

Prisoners serving 2/3 of a sentence should serve the whole sentence and not be released after serving half of the sentence especially after taking a life

From september there will be a new legislation that prisoners serving 2/3 of a sentence will now be released after serving just HALF of the imposed sentence. It feels as though the sentence imposed by the court has been significantly reduced, leaving families like mine feeling that justice has not been fully served. I hope that no other family has to experience the additional pain of seeing a sentence effectively reduced while they continue serving a lifetime of loss.
