Rejected petition: Do not apply any ILR qualifying period changes retrospectively
Rejected on
Ensure that any future changes to the Indefinite Leave to Remain ILR qualifying period are not applied retrospectively. All people who were granted visas under the current immigration rules should remain eligible for ILR under the rules that were in place when their visas were granted.
This petition asks the UK Government to ensure any ILR rule changes do not affect people already on a legal pathway to settlement
Thousands of people came to the UK under existing rules, paid taxes, contributed to society, and built their lives based on those rule's Changing the requirements now would be unfair and would break trust. It would also affect families and children who have made the UK their home
Any new ILR rules should apply only to future applicants.
