Rejected petition: Call a COBRA meeting over wildfire risk

July 2026 is set to be the hottest in 200 years, and the UK is burning with multiple wildfires in Scotland, Wales and England destroying ecosystems that have been here for decades, risking lives. Its time for action now.
I am calling on the UK government to call a COBRA meeting to discuss all possible measures for management of wildfire risk so we are better prepared for 2027 including:
1. Ban the sale of disposable BBQs
2. Ban the sale of fireworks to general public
3. Spot purchase by UK govt of firefighting media including water bombers
4. Put all resource on the table for recruitment of firefighters on retained duty system
5. Meet stakeholders like gamekeepers and FBU and other SMEs

The Prime Minister chaired a Cobra committee meeting on 12 August on the UK’s ongoing response to extreme heat, wildfires and drought.
