Rejected petition: Prevent plastic pollution- ZERO PLASTIC PELLET LOSS

Rejected on

One billion plastic nurdles were spilled into the Port of Tyne after two ships collided last week, and wildlife faces a significant and ongoing threat. While official agencies have undertaken limited response efforts, much of the clean up has been driven by volunteers. We demand a lasting change.

25 tonnes of nurdles have spilled in to the sea. The nature of longshore drift sees the deposition of pellets span increasingly further every day.
The response has been wholly unacceptable. The clean up has been left to the good of the local people, but there is only so much that can be done, as these microplastics become buried in the sand and swallowed by wildlife.
We are calling for the UK to input a law in line with the 'Zero Plastic Pellet Loss' EU law to prevent further disaster.
