We call on the Government to protect marine life by banning sunscreens containing oxybenzone & octinoxate and promote reef-safe alternatives through public awareness campaigns and clear product labelling. These measures could reduce pollution and help safeguard coral reefs and marine ecosystems.

We believe banning sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate is important as research suggests these chemicals can harm coral reefs, contribute to coral bleaching, and disrupt marine ecosystems. Healthy reefs support biodiversity, fisheries, tourism, and coastal protection. Replacing harmful sunscreens with reef-safe alternatives could help reduce marine pollution, protect vulnerable species, and preserve ocean ecosystems for future generations while still allowing effective sun protection.
